What You Need to Know About Rose Hips
The rose hip is the fleshy false fruit of a rose. Its shape can be round, elongated, or bottle-shaped. Depending on the species and variety of the rose, the color can be red, orange, purple, or black. The rose is found in Europe, Asia, South America, and North America.
A Bit About Rose Hip Cultivation
When harvesting rose hips for various applications, they are usually left on the bush until after the first frost, which gives them a beautiful bright red color and makes them somewhat soft. The remaining blooms are then pruned away, and the rose hip is cut as close as possible to the base of the swollen bulbous hips of the bush.
Health Benefits of Rose Hips
Rose hips are rich in vitamin C and also contain vitamins A, B1, and B2. Research is currently being conducted on the effects of rose hips in reducing pain in arthritis.
