Stereolithography (SLA or SL; also known as optical manufacturing, photo-solidification, freeform solid fabrication, and solid imaging) is an additive manufacturing or 3D printing technology used to produce models, prototypes, patterns, and production parts in a single layer by curing a photoreactive resin with a UV laser or another similar energy source. How does SLA work? First, the SLA machine begins drawing the support structures layer by layer. The part itself is traced with an ultraviolet laser directed onto the surface of a thermosetting liquid resin. Second, when a layer is represented on the resin surface, the manufacturing platform moves down, and a coating bar moves across the platform to apply the next layer of resin. This process is carried out layer by layer until the construction is complete. Applied Industries: Medical Device Applied Industries: Scientific Instruments
