Wild silk called Eri, coming from Erinda, the Hindi name for the castor plant that its butterfly feeds on.
The cocoon is naturally opened for the metamorphosis of the caterpillar.
The silk is therefore harvested in a non-violent manner, without killing the pupa, and is thus used by many
Buddhist monks. A very high-quality craftsmanship combines the work of farmers, women who spin the silk,
and artisans who weave on handlooms in the far northeast of India. The fineness of Eri silk and the artisanal weaving technique offer a wide variety of weaves from the finest to the thickest.
