Phosphate rock is a crucial raw material used in the production of fertilizers. It occurs in two main geological forms: sedimentary and igneous. Composition of phosphate rock: Phosphorus (P) is the primary nutrient in phosphate rock and is essential for plant growth and development. It is typically reported as phosphorus pentoxide (P2O5). The phosphorus content in phosphate rock can vary from 25% to 31%, which is equivalent to 62-67.5 BPL %. Calcium (Ca) is another essential element found in natural phosphate. It plays a vital role in the structure of plant cells, root development, and nutrient absorption. It can range from 30% to 50%. Carbonates (CO3) are common impurities found in phosphate rock and usually exist as calcium carbonate (CaCO3) or magnesium carbonate (MgCO3).
