The very compact torque sensor type 8656 is designed to be contactless. The torque is measured through the torsion of the shaft using the strain gauge principle. Thanks to the inductive and optical transmission of signals, the sensor is maintenance-free; the signals are digitized directly on the shaft and made available as a voltage signal or via USB by the evaluation electronics. With high-quality bearings, speeds of up to 10,000 RPM are possible. The direction of rotation is indicated by the potential of the output voltage: a positive output voltage corresponds to clockwise rotation, while counterclockwise rotation results in a negative voltage level.
The shaft is equipped with keyway slots in every measurement range, and matching keys are included. If no connection via key is desired, the use of the key can be omitted. The torque is safely transmitted using suitable couplings, e.g., type 8690.
