Commentary The history of the Bardet vineyards begins in 1704, on the banks of the Garonne, in the Parish of St-Brice de Vignonet, south of Saint-Emilion. A merchant of wines and cereals, Mr. Seigneriau navigates the peaceful waters of the Garonne, the Gironde, and the Dordogne to load his barge with barrels of wine, which he then sells in the trading ports. The port of Vignonet becomes a key location for wine trade and an essential passage to the port of Bordeaux. As maritime trade flourishes, the Seigneriau family invests in vineyards. However, the arrival of the steam engine and railways at the end of the 19th century disrupts river trade and brings an end to the barge transport activity.
