  2. ARBEQUINA I SECCIÓ DE CRÈDIT

    The arbequina is a variety of olive tree. The variety is native to the village of Arbeca, Lleida, in the region of Les Garrigues, which gave it its name. This variety is considered one of the best in the world, both for its production and regularity and for the quality of its oil. It is a very productive variety. The ripening date is medium, from the first fortnight of November. The fruits of the olive are small, spherical, symmetrical and are clustered. They are black when ripe and have no lenticels on the skin of the fruit. It is self-fertile. Its fruits do not ripen simultaneously, and it has a medium resistance to detachment. The Arbequina cooperative is one of the Arbequina oil producers with a protected Denomination of Origin “Les Garrigues Oil”, controlled by the DOP Les Garrigues Regulatory Council based in Lleida. It is the first denomination of origin of oil recognized in the Spanish territory (1975), certified in 1996 by the European Union as PDO, recognizing the excellent quality of Catalan olive oil.

    Nuestra Señora del Pilar is one of 9 agricultural cooperatives that belong to the local council. It sells its packaged oil under the CAZORLIVA brand. The end product, after all the painstaking blending and packaging, is a CAZORLIVA Extra Virgin Olive Oil that retains all its flavour, aroma and colour, the essential characteristics of the outstanding olives cultivated in this region.
