‘The Leuven ‘Champagne’ As early as 1121, Duke Godfried planted a vineyard in Leuven. In 1994, Paul Vleminckx and An Lefever did the same, this time with expert assistance from specialists from the Champagne region. They initially planted 21,000 vines in Oud-Heverlee, but the wine was so well-received that it quickly proved to be insufficient. Today, there are no less than 60,000 grapevines...
