This refers to the process of creating a thin layer of zinc metal (common layer thicknesses are 5 – 25µm), on which surface layers preferably form that adhere to the atmosphere, primarily consisting of zinc oxide, zinc hydroxide, zinc carbonate, and sometimes zinc sulfate or zinc chloride (metallic bluish-white color). To ensure corrosion protection that meets standards, passivations (chromating) must be applied to the galvanized surface. Passivating (chromating) significantly delays the corrosion of zinc.
