Pour the flakes into a deep dish, pour boiling water (boiling milk or broth) in a ratio of 1:1.5 (1.5 cups of liquid per 1 cup of flakes). Mix thoroughly, cover, leave to infuse for 3-5 minutes. Add salt, sugar, spices, butter to taste.
