Flow drilling allows you to create a durable thread in a thin-walled tube without the need for inserts, rivets, welded nuts, or other added components. Flow drilling, or friction drilling, enables you to form the equivalent of a threaded insert directly in your metal part by drilling while displacing the metal, followed by a flow tapping or deformation tapping operation in the resulting sleeve. This process is very simple to implement; it involves a carbide tool mounted on a standard column drill, machining center, or machining spindle for a special machine. Flow drilling is very cost-effective compared to installing inserts and, above all, allows for a much more reliable assembly. We have also developed a dedicated magnetic drill, MAG DRILL, for flow drilling.
