Château Côte de Baleau

Commentary The Cuvelier family, owners of Clos Fourtet (1st Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Emilion) and Château Poujeaux (AOC Moulis en Médoc), has acquired two Grand Crus Classés located in the heart of Saint-Emilion: Les Grandes Murailles (2 ha adjacent to Clos Fourtet) and Côte de Baleau (18 ha, of which 15 ha are classified). They have also taken a stake in Le Clos Saint-Martin (1.3 ha), where Sophie Fourcade (former director and co-owner of the three estates) remains the majority shareholder. A discreet but significant estate, Côte de Baleau is situated on the plateau, between clay-limestone and clay-sandy areas. With a beautiful consistency, it develops a distinctive, complete, and expressive character fairly quickly, without striving for peaks of intensity.
