The chip cooler of the HXB series by SEPA EUROPE is a compact combination of fan and heat sink and is an attractively priced combination with an adequate cooling capacity. But the development engineers at SEPA EUROPE wanted to go further and this pushing ahead marked the birth of the 3DQler. The cooperation with the experts of APWORKS provided the decisive impulse. Due to the metal 3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, APWORKS is in the position to produce geometrically highly complex heat sinks. Without having to change the external dimensions or make the fan more powerful, the additively manufactured version can be realized with 30% more efficient waste heat. With the 3DQler, SEPA EUROPE and APWORKS have developed a modern and active cooling concept that offers numerous advantages: Freedom of design with regard to installation space and a reduction of the manufacturing costs.

In the fluid dynamics laboratory of our Wasserburg competence centre, we design new fan wheels and turbines and optimise existing systems for performance, energy efficiency and noise emissions. We also develop complete systems of wheels with power units. Our range of tests includes suction operation, pressure operation and also unpressurised measurements. Revolutions up to 40,000 r/min and diameters of up to 250mm are possible. In our prototype department, we are able to simulate or modify the environmental circumstances of the fan wheels or turbines, thus achieving optimal operational conditions. Furthermore, we carry out mould-flow analysis, use ANSYS from external partners for the flow simulation and establish the fault probability and fault effect with FPFEs. A roof fan can be the same name referring to two different types of fans. On the one hand, it is the classic fan that is mounted indoors in homes and spins around to create an air flow in a room (these are also called HVLS fans (High-Volume Low-Speed)). And partly it is the type of fans that we work with – i.e. fans that are mounted outdoors on roofs belonging to e.g. apartment buildings, schools or industrial premises. A roof fan is a fan that is part of the ventilation system and has the task of extracting hot air, moisture and pollution from the indoor space and blowing them outside.
