Lemon balm, also known as Melissa officinalis, gets its name from the Greek word "melissa," which means "bee." Its nectar-rich flowers are highly valued by bees. As early as the 11th century, Avicenna, the famous Persian physician, claimed that lemon balm had the power to "make the heart joyful and content." Lemon balm hydrosol has calming, anti-spasmodic, digestive, and anti-inflammatory properties. Although obtaining essential oil from lemon balm is challenging due to its complex aromatic molecules, these same molecules are present in lemon balm hydrosol.
