Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Lilac family, growing in southern Europe and the Mediterranean. The lands around the Mediterranean Sea are considered her homeland. It is cultivated in many countries of Europe and North America. Lemon balm powder or flour is made from the leaves and stems of the wonderful lemon balm herb. Action: The aerial part of lemon balm was used by the ancient Greeks and Romans for its pleasant refreshing smell, reminiscent of that of lemon peel. Traditionally in Bulgaria, it is used to prepare tea, and separately – to prepare boletes and liqueurs. Nerve-soothing, pain-relieving, antispasmodic, hypotensive, appetite-stimulating, digestive function-improving action. It is used in diseases of nervous origin (rapid heartbeat, cardiac neurosis, neurasthenia, vomiting of nervous origin, migraine, sexual excitement, chest frog).
