Cutting insulated steel cables without thickening the cable ends

A supplier of high-quality Bowden cables and assembled wire ropes had a special requirement for a new machine. It needed to cut and strip insulated steel strands as well as cut non-insulated steel cables, without the individual wires springing apart or the cable ends thickening during the separation process. The company Metzner Maschinenbau has responded to this request by developing an automatic, programmable production line. For this purpose, an AM 3500 was modified and expanded into a complete manufacturing system with a powered drum unwinder, a special cutting module, and a material drop-off unit. The latter are mobile and can be attached to the AM 3500 as needed. The production line can process materials with diameters ranging from 0.5 to 5 mm.
