The application of preload to a fastener by the turning of the fastener's nut. Friction points should always be lubricated when using the torque tightening method. Torque Tightening and Preload. The amount of preload created when torquing is largely dependant on the effects of friction.

Colour Marking Preset Torque Wrench for Cap Screw Tightening. A mark is made on the tightened cap screw and an adjacent location on your work. This lets you check for subsequent loosening. A marking torque wrench for tightening cap screws, which prevents human tightening errors. Upon reaching the set torque the marker is designed to stamp on the bolt and work. Because the stamped mark is put on the side of the bolt and the work piece, it can not only prevent missed tightening but also detect loosening of bolts. The marker is designed to stamp only when the torque wrench operates upon reaching the set torque. Marking stays on by use of quick dry ink. One refill of ink is capable of approximately 3,000 times of stamping. Marker is ink cartridge type. Only hand force required for tightening a bolt and marking the bolt simultaneously. Applicable for international use including the EU region. Compliant with ISO 6789 Type II Class B calibration procedures. [...]

DEWALT’s lead design engineer for drills was tasked with designing a high power right angle drill that is lightweight, compact, and portable. The goal with the design was to maximize performance while minimizing the size of the tool. The design would incorporate a mechanical clutch built to limit maximum torque output to 70 ft-lbs. Absent the clutch, with the huge gear reduction of 75:1, the drill would be capable of producing a lock rotor torque at the spindle of 175 ft-lbs, transmitted directly to the operator of the tool. It was determined early on that the clutching thrust required in the space available could only be achieved by a Disc Spring design. Compared to conventional coil springs, Disc Springs offer a higher load capacity in less space. Additionally, longevity and reliability is a high measure of quality for professional tools used on a daily basis. The life and performance warranty of the tool was reliant on the Disc Spring design.
